Last friday our favorite ska band The Bartenders celebrated their 10th birthday. They birthday party took place in Sen Pszczoly club in Warsaw. I had a pleasure to play some tunes on after party.
I have already seen the Bartenders on stage few time so I knew that they will perform great as always. But it was first time for me to see them on stage with new vocalist Kuba Kaczmarek (also known from Cala Gora Barwinkow). Kuba sounds great on band's latest record but I was curious how it will look live.
Before Bartenders gig there was pokaz Ska Delight movie (referring to the ska scene around a world). It's a movie about Ska scene around a world made by Krzysztof Gajewski. Unfortunately I can't say much more because when arrive to the club we saw just last few minutes of the movie. Hope that it will soon be released on DVD.
First on stage came Ct-Tones from Torun. I wanted to see them from some time because I heard a lot of good opinions about them. They play early reggae with a little bit of rocksteady.
You tell easy that they feel that music and they know how to play it. Unfortunately sound quality wasn't very good. Sen Pszczoly is situated in old factory or magazyn. So probably it's quite hard to do something with sound in such big and high place. I was realm concern about The Bartenders performance. Anyway I believe that you will hear about Ct Tones in the future. My friend who saw them few times on stage told me that usually they sound much better. I need to check this in the near future. And to be honest a lot of people were dancing from the beginning of their set. Finger crossed for Ct Tones as we need more band which know how to play reggae.
After them The Bartenders started their show. If you heard them on stage or on the record you know that they are pure quality. The band always sounds great and they know exactly how to force you to dance. This time was the same. From first tones till the last song people were dancing.
Sound quality was much better on their set (especially near the stage) but there was moments when wouldn't hear vocals, fortunately it was only for short moments).
The Bartenders set was a mix of songs from their latest album and the old ones). Definitely all musician in the bands know how to play ska with jazz influences.(For sure they all have this feeling which is a must if you want to play great ska-jazzy tunes). It's a honey for your ears, caffeine for your foots and hips. I just couldn't stop dancing.
I have to admit that they choose right person for the vocals. He sounds superb on album and stage.
You couldn't call it a birthday party if you don't have a cake. Bartenders get one in the really ska style from their Warsaw fans.
Like I said I had a pleasure to play some tunes after their gig. It was great experience to play some reggae and ska classics to this quite big dancing crowd.
